Veteran ex-footballers such as Setién, Munitis, Morientes, Capdevila, Llorente, Zanetti, Saviola, or 'El Cholo' Simeone will participate.

The El Sardinero sports fields in Santander will host a football match between veterans from the Spanish and Argentine national teams on September 5, featuring illustrious names from Spanish, Argentine, and Cantabrian football.

Among them will be Cantabrian players Quique Setién, Pedro Munitis, José Emilio Amavisca, and Salva Ballesta; other Spanish internationals such as Fernando Llorente, Carlos Marchena, Joan Capdevila, Marcos Senna, Juanfran Torres, Fernando Morientes, Gaizka Mendieta, or Albert Luque; and Argentines Diego Pablo 'El Cholo' Simeone, Sergio Goycoechea, Javier Zanetti, Augusto Fernández, Javier Saviola, Ariel Ortega, or Leo Rodríguez.

This was announced on Tuesday by the mayor, Gema Igual, who participated in the presentation of this match alongside the councilor for Sports, Beatriz Pellón, the partner-director of World Eleven, the company promoting the match, Alejandro Prado, and other officials and sponsors, according to a statement from the City Council.

Igual described it as a "great privilege" for Santander to host this great spectacle that will allow football fans to see beloved and close players, as well as other illustrious names at the national and international level.

"For the City Council of Santander, it is an honor to make our sports facilities available to host this great football celebration around two true football powers such as Spain and Argentina," she emphasized.

"Fans will be able to enjoy the spectacle of football on September 5 and see high-level footballers who were stars during their respective professional careers, many of whom are still closely involved in the world of football today as coaches, trainers, or in other football-related roles," Igual pointed out.

She highlighted that these are players who have left an "indelible mark" on the sport and have "given everything throughout their careers."

The mayor invited Santander residents and visitors to take advantage of this "great opportunity" and fill the stands of El Sardinero to celebrate this major sporting event "as it deserves."

She also thanked the Spanish Association of International Footballers for considering Santander as the venue for this match.
